Is this date ambiguous? US vs UK explained
Before you submit a visa form, sign a contract, or import a spreadsheet row, ask: does 05/06/2026 mean May 6 or June 5? This checker answers that in one step — without converting or exporting anything.
How this page differs from Date Format Fixer
- Single-date input — one field, instant dual cards
- No Preference dropdown — we show both readings, you decide
- No batch/CSV— focused on the "wait, which day is this?" moment
Quick rules
- Day > 12 → unambiguous DD/MM (e.g. 28/05/2026)
- First number > 12 in US position → unambiguous MM/DD (e.g. 05/28/2026)
- Both ≤ 12 → ambiguous; both cards will appear

FAQ
When is a date ambiguous?
When both parts are ≤ 12 and could be day or month — e.g. 03/04/2025 is March 4 (UK) or April 3 (US). Dates like 28/05/2026 are safe because 28 cannot be a month.
Why use a checker instead of the Date Format Fixer?
This page is built for one-off checks before filling a form or replying to an email. The Fixer is for batch CSV columns with export.
What should I do if my date is ambiguous?
Ask where the document or data came from. US sources use MM/DD; UK, EU, India, and Australia use DD/MM. When storing data, use ISO 8601 (YYYY-MM-DD).
Does this tool pick US or UK automatically?
No — and that's intentional. It shows both readings side by side so you can decide. Automatic guessing is how CSV imports get corrupted.
Can I check multiple dates?
This checker is optimized for a single date. For a list or CSV column, use Date Format Fixer which flags every ambiguous row.
